About Us

Edinburgh Wire is an independent digital news publisher focused on Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scotland, owned and operated by Sliema Media Limited (Malta Business Registry company number C 84217). We deliver clear, practical coverage of local politics, councils, business, crime and community affairs, alongside UK-wide stories with direct relevance to our readers. Every article is written by a named journalist, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before publication, ensuring trustworthy local journalism without spin or oversimplification.

Who are we and what is our mission?

Edinburgh Wire exists to help readers understand how public decisions affect everyday life in Edinburgh and across Scotland. Our editorial mission is to provide trustworthy local journalism that explains complex issues — from council budgets and planning applications to housing policy and community safety — in a way that is accurate, accessible and free from political or commercial bias. We are a small, dedicated team based across the UK and Malta, committed to serving the Edinburgh and Scottish public with integrity.

What do we cover?

Our coverage spans Edinburgh and Scottish politics, councils, business, crime, community affairs and UK-wide stories with local relevance. We report on the City of Edinburgh Council, the Scottish Parliament, transport and infrastructure, local business and property markets, housing and employment, crime and court proceedings, and community initiatives. We also cover national stories — from Westminster legislation to UK economic trends — where they directly affect Edinburgh and the Lothians. Our aim is to be the first port of call for anyone who wants to understand what is happening in their city and region.

How do we work?

Every article published on Edinburgh Wire is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before it goes live. Our editorial process is designed to ensure accuracy, fairness and accountability. We maintain a formal Editorial Policy and a dedicated Fact-Checking Policy, both of which are publicly available. AI-assisted tools may support research, drafting, formatting or transcription, but they never replace human editorial judgement. Every piece of published content is approved by a human editor, and we strictly prohibit the fabrication of quotes, sources, interviews, bylines or expert profiles.

Who is responsible for what we publish?

William Ashby is the Editor-in-Chief, responsible for editorial standards, publication decisions and corrections. He can be reached at william.ashby@edinburghwire.co.uk or on +44 20 4587 9485. Sarah Mills is the Managing Editor, overseeing the daily newsroom, headline review and commissioning. She is available at sarah.mills@edinburghwire.co.uk or +44 20 4587 9486. The wider team includes Kieran Doherty (Local Politics & Council Editor), Lucy Hartley (Community & Crime Correspondent), Oscar Friel (Business & Property Correspondent) and Diane Forbes (Standards & Fact-Checking Lead). Full profiles are available on our Our Team page.

What can you expect from us?

You can expect journalism that is accurate, independent and transparent. We name our sources where possible, correct errors promptly and clearly, and label sponsored or commercial content so you always know what you are reading. Our editorial conclusions are never influenced by commercial relationships. We are committed to serving the public interest, not any political or corporate agenda. If we make a mistake, we own it and fix it — our Corrections Policy explains how.
