Newsletter

The Edinburgh Wire Briefing is our daily email that brings together the most important stories from Edinburgh and Scotland – politics, council decisions, business, crime and community life – selected and explained by our editorial team. It gives you a concise, trustworthy overview of what matters locally, delivered to your inbox every weekday morning, alongside occasional special editions for major events.

What does The Edinburgh Wire Briefing include?

Each edition contains the essential headlines from Edinburgh and Scotland, with a focus on stories that affect how residents and businesses live, work and plan. You get council and planning updates, coverage of the Scottish Parliament and local government decisions, business and property news from Oscar Friel, crime and court reporting from Lucy Hartley, and wider community context that links national policies to local effects.

Every story in the newsletter has been through our editorial process – written by a named journalist, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Diane Forbes. We do not include sponsored or affiliate content in the editorial briefing unless it is clearly labelled as such.

How often is it sent?

The Edinburgh Wire Briefing is sent every weekday morning, covering the previous day’s news and any breaking developments overnight. Special editions are published when significant events require – election results, major council decisions, court verdicts or public inquiries – so you never miss a key update.

What you can expect from us

We aim for clarity, accuracy and independence. Our team works under Editor-in-Chief William Ashby, who is responsible for all publication decisions and corrections. You can read more about the people behind the newsletter on our team page. The briefing is curated by Managing Editor Sarah Mills and our subject editors; no automated system decides what appears in your inbox.

Who puts the newsletter together?

The entire editorial team contributes. William Ashby sets the editorial direction and approves final content. Sarah Mills commissions articles and oversees headline review. Kieran Doherty selects council and transport stories. Lucy Hartley and Oscar Friel provide specialist reporting. Diane Forbes ensures every fact and source is verified before inclusion. The newsletter reflects the same standards as our website – human-led, fact-checked, and free of spin.

How can I subscribe?

Your email address is stored securely and used only to send the Briefing and occasional service messages. We never share your data with third parties. For full details, see our privacy policy.

Is sponsored content clearly marked?

Yes. The Edinburgh Wire Briefing may include occasional sponsor messages or commercial partnerships, but these are always labelled as “sponsored” or “partner content”. Affiliate links within articles are disclosed. No commercial relationship influences which editorial stories are selected for the newsletter. You can read our full advertising and affiliate disclosure for transparency on how we fund our journalism.
