Events & Listings Policy

Edinburgh Wire publishes event listings and community calendars as part of our commitment to local journalism. We aim to provide accurate, timely information about what’s happening in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Scotland. All listings are subject to the same editorial standards as our news articles, with every entry reviewed by a human editor before publication.

How are event listings sourced and verified?

Our events team, overseen by Lucy Hartley, Community & Crime Correspondent, sources listings from public submissions, press releases and official council calendars. Every entry is checked for factual accuracy by our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Diane Forbes, before publication.

Verification includes confirming the event name, date, time, location, organiser contact details and any ticket information. Listings from anonymous sources or those lacking verifiable details are not accepted. We also cross-reference dates and venues with official sources such as City of Edinburgh Council and Police Scotland where relevant. If an event is cancelled or postponed, we update or remove the listing as soon as we are informed.

How can I submit an event?

To submit a listing, email events@edinburghwire.co.uk with the event name, date, time, location, a brief description and a contact point. We accept free submissions from non-profit and community organisations. Commercial listings must be sponsored and will be clearly labelled.

Submissions should arrive at least two weeks before the event date to allow time for verification and scheduling. We cannot guarantee inclusion of every submission, and we reserve the right to edit descriptions for length and clarity. Sponsored or promoted listings are handled separately; see our advertising and affiliate disclosure and sponsored content policy for details.

What about corrections to listings?

If you spot an error in a listing, please email corrections@edinburghwire.co.uk or our events desk directly. We will correct mistakes promptly and transparently, following our corrections policy.

Corrections are published on the same page as the original listing, with a note explaining what was changed and when. Our editorial policy governs all corrections, and Diane Forbes oversees the process. We take accuracy seriously – if a listing contains significant factual errors, we may withdraw it entirely and publish a notice.

What you can expect from us

You can expect that every listing is reviewed by a human editor before publication. We do not give preferential treatment to paying advertisers, and any sponsored content is clearly labelled as such.

Edinburgh Wire, owned by Sliema Media Limited, maintains editorial independence in all listings. Our regional reporting policy ensures coverage reflects genuine community interest, not commercial pressure. We prioritise events that serve the public good – from council consultations to charity fundraisers – and we do not charge for basic listings from non-commercial organisers. For any concerns about a listing, contact our events desk or the Editor-in-Chief William Ashby via our contact page.

How are commercial listings handled?

Commercial event listings, including those from advertisers or partners, are clearly marked as ‘Sponsored’ or ‘Promoted’. Affiliate links within listings are disclosed in accordance with our advertising policy.

No commercial relationship determines whether a listing is included or excluded. Sponsors may pay for enhanced placement, but the factual content of the listing remains subject to the same verification process. Full details are in our advertising and affiliate disclosure and sponsored content policy. Non-commercial submissions are never charged a fee.
