Ownership & Funding

Edinburgh Wire is owned and operated by Sliema Media Limited, a company registered in Malta under number C 84217. The publication is funded through a mix of advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, content licensing and event partnerships. Editorial independence is guaranteed by a clear firewall between commercial operations and news decisions, with Editor-in-Chief William Ashby holding final authority over all editorial content. Our full governance structure is detailed below and on the Our Team page.

Who owns Edinburgh Wire?

Edinburgh Wire is owned by Sliema Media Limited (Malta Business Registry company number C 84217), whose registered office is at Level 3, Tower Business Centre, Tower Street, Swatar, Birkirkara BKR 4013, Malta. The company is the sole owner and publisher of the site and is fully responsible for its operations and funding model.

The owner’s main phone number is +356 2779 4100. All editorial and business decisions are made independently in Edinburgh, overseen by Editor-in-Chief William Ashby. Sliema Media Limited does not involve itself in day-to-day editorial judgments, story selection or journalistic standards.

How is Edinburgh Wire funded?

Edinburgh Wire generates revenue from display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, content licensing and event partnerships. Every piece of sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed in accordance with our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure policy.

We do not accept funding from political parties, government bodies or advocacy groups that could influence coverage. Commercial relationships are managed by a separate team and never determine editorial conclusions. No advertiser or partner has any editorial control over what we publish.

Does funding affect editorial decisions?

No. Commercial revenue never determines editorial conclusions, story selection or the treatment of any subject. Our Editorial Policy explicitly prohibits the advertising, sponsorship or commercial teams from influencing news coverage. Sponsored content is clearly separated from editorial content and carries a prominent label.

All editorial decisions are made by the newsroom under the direction of Editor-in-Chief William Ashby. The fact-checking team, led by Diane Forbes, works independently of commercial considerations. Every article undergoes editorial review and fact-checking before publication, regardless of any advertising or sponsorship relationship.

Who is responsible for what we publish?

Editor-in-Chief William Ashby has ultimate accountability for editorial standards, publication decisions and corrections. He can be reached at william.ashby@edinburghwire.co.uk or on +44 20 4587 9485. The wider editorial team is listed on Our Team page and includes Managing Editor Sarah Mills, Local Politics & Council Editor Kieran Doherty, Community & Crime Correspondent Lucy Hartley, Business & Property Correspondent Oscar Friel, and Standards & Fact-Checking Lead Diane Forbes.

Every article is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact-checked before publication. For complaints about any piece, readers can contact the Complaints Procedure desk directly. Our Fact-Checking Policy explains how sources are verified and corrections are handled.

What you can expect from us

Edinburgh Wire delivers trustworthy local journalism that helps readers understand how public decisions affect everyday life in Edinburgh and across Scotland. We are committed to transparency about our ownership, funding and editorial independence. Any errors are corrected promptly in line with our Corrections Policy.
